Good looking storage Jun 04, 2007

These cabinets are very attractive and are approximately 6" taller than the rest of the "assemble it yourself" type garage storage solutions. My wife and I put together 12 of them and we are still married!
Packaging:
They are packaged very nicely and we had only one minor damaged part that I repaired myself. Extensive use of styrofoam and blister packs for the small pieces insured that there were no missing parts or pieces amoung the 12 cabinets.
Assembly:
We have put together many, many pieces of do-it-yourself furniture over the years and these are in general a bit more difficult to assemble. Assembly goes from pretty simple for the smaller pieces to extremely frustrating for the larger 42" cabinets, of which I had 3. Even with the smaller cabinets there is a point where they are precariously held together by only one or two of the special pin-type connectors and can be damaged easily if they are accidently bumped by another piece that you may be attempting to install.
The cabinets do not use the nailed on cardboard on the backs as many others do. Instead, they have pieces of fiberboard or cardboard that slide into channels. These pieces are not only difficult to insert properly but also has a strong tendency to slip out of the channels. Additionally, The cam-lock connectors are very frustrating to get lined up and seated correctly, especially on pieces that have 4 or 6 of them to do at the same time. We damaged several cabinets trying to seat the connectors.
There is no center foot or support on the larger cabinets which means that the bottom shelf sagged immediately when a 30 or 40 lb load was placed on it. I slide some wood underneath is to act as a verticle brace.
Overall, I am happy with the cabinets now that they are done - they look great and my garage has no more visual clutter. If you are going to build just one or two, and not the 42" model, I think you will be satisfied with them. UltiMate Garage Storage System - 10 Piece 15' Unit
